Shapers Shack, Ulverstone Tasmania

~~~
It's been 12 months since we have had the Vissla Shapers Shack out in a public space. We had a number of dates booked but 2020 had different plans.
So, it was nice to get a call-up for the Northwest Boardriders Board Expo in Ulverstone, Tasmania.
We arrived the night before, staying at Rivers Edge Apartments, a group of large apartments on the river opposite the venue, Buttons Brewing. It was midnight when we turned up with a loaded car trailer, trying to navigate a parking spot without waking everyone up. Tony, the owner however came out to greet us, friendly and extremely helpful, we were able to get the over-sized trailer in a safe spot for a quick sleep before an early start.
It's the morning of the event and with the trailer back on the car we were off to the Brewery. Buttons Brewing is a new brew house and eatery on the river in Ulverstone. For its second appearance, the Shapers Shack went together really well. We have the Shack down to 1.5 hours setup time, from a flat packed Bunnings pack to literally shaping a surfboard.
While the restaurant was enjoying some epic sliders it was time to fire up the planer. Todays board shaped by myself, Faze Surfboards, a 6'11 x 21 x 2 3/4 mid-length. It was great to show the local surfers up in the north what happens in the shaping bay.
It was great meeting and catching up with a few of the North Coast shapers, some new and some retired like Brendan Milch. Still passionate about boards and surfboard design, Milchy is an absolute legend from these parts and a hell of a laugh too! Milchy took out most of the surfboard awards that day including, best performance, best artwork and best alternative.
It was great to meet a bunch of local legends including Milch of Passion 8 Surfboards. An absolute character and someone who has worked with the best including Kim Thompson while living in Torquay, Vic. Also hailing from Boat Harbor on the north coast of Tasmania is Christian Bradley of Bradley Surfboards. Christian now works and shapes for the worlds best surfers out of Euroglass, France.
Thanks to all the crew from North West Boardriders for having us along. A fantastic event! We'll be back next year!
Catch the Vissla Shapers Shack presented by Aquiva over this coming summer. We have a few events in planning.
